Dear Boardroom Belles,
I hate commuting to work in heels, but I’m sick of lugging my heels to work every day – any suggestions?
– Hopefully Heel-less Commuter
Dear HHC,
Ohhh how I can relate… I walk about a mile to work every day and NEVER wear high heels during my commute. I like my work shoes to be scuff and mark free (NYC sidewalks and grates wreak havoc on my heels!), but I hate carrying anything extra in my work tote. My solution – keep my heels at work. For me this is the best solution. My heels are scuff/mark/gouge/scratch free and I never forget my heels at home!
I live work in a cubicle that contains a large filing cabinet, one drawer of which contains my shoe collection. I like to keep my shoes tucked away and out of sight in my bottom drawer. Keeping shoes in a pile under a desk is not an option for me since I work in such an open space. Additionally, as Parker can attest to, I’m slightly OCD about my desk and a pile of shoes under my desk is wayyyyy too messy for me… (I’m literally getting stressed out just picturing that chaos)…
While this works for me, you may not have access to a file cabinet (or you may actually use yours….). Another option is to purchase a small wicker basket (like this) or box with a lid (like this) that you can uses to corral and organize that under-desk-pile of shoes. The basket or box keeps shoes organized and can be tucked away in an under-desk corner and kept out of sight.
